Realities of “Making Do”
Monday, July 21st, 2008After watching Robert Llewellyn’s “Making Do” videos about his year-long boycott against consumerism, I thought it would be “fun” to try it myself for a month. Well, folks, here’s the first casualty: broken sunglasses. These $19 sunglasses from REI have lasted me about two years and the screws have been coming loose off and on. Today I totally lost the screw, so I could find a matching screw… but I was quite tempted to just buy another pair. I was reminded by Jenn that I shouldn’t be so consumerific, so I just popped a paper-clip into into the screw slot for the drive home.
File this under “First-world problems.”
BREAKING: Matt has kindly volunteered to fix my sunglasses. Woot.
